Sorry, im kinda new to the mobile audio scene.... just a q wut r amps used for, i know they go with woofers and speakers, but wut exactly are they used for... and how do u know if u need em or not? thx....

amps are to amplify the signal sent from the deck as cleanly as possible..How do you know if you need them? If you put aftermarker speakers in your car you should have an amp especially if you get good ones.

Even if you don't have aftermarket speakers some cars come with amps already installed to do what mykeys said; Amplify the sound. Think of it in terms of a microphone. When u talk with out one your voice isn't as loud as if u have one.
