USB HDD on Alpine 9887

Does anybody that has the KCA-620M and CDA 9887 tried to connect an HDD to it? If so does it work with the files folder structure? Any feedback on this would be appreciated, i would like to use a HDD instead of a n Ipod on my CDA9887.
