Honestly though, the only way we will ever invest enough in alternative fuel sources to make a difference is if something drastic happens.

I'd much rather have something like that happen when I'm still young enough to have a fighting chance against the chaos instead of when I'm all old and decrepit.

Good thinking -- another approach might be to figure out a solution to our energy needs and then tell them to go Fvck off.
Seriously, I think that it is almost criminal that we do not have the Modern equivalent to the Manhatten project working on this. i had an uncle that worked for nasa that said we were working on hydrogen cars back in the 70's and when they got near a prototype that was going to be able to put combustion vehicles out of business the government halted the project with no reason given. one day they were working on it and the next day the entire thing was destroyed.......

"hybrid" cars are a joke and only out there to make people think they are trying to come up with alternate fuels. didnt george bush make his millions from oil? you think he wants to put himself out of business?

and ive been told by friends in the military that were going to war with iran for years. were already starting the transition from iraq. a friend of mine thats a marine thats going to iraq in a month said that hes only going to train their military and police. he said he assumes so theyll be on our side when we fight iran.

we should should go to war with Iran, just so that gas spikes to $12 a gallon.
Maybe that would provide some incentive to finding an alternative fuel source.

Doubtful. It will just fuel the hunger for obtaining control over it.

i spend about $70 a week in one ford focus, but I'm willing to sacrifice for the good of the country.

Thats a lot of driving. I do 60 miles/day and only spend $40/week in gas with my Cavalier.
