Upgrading to 15s, need recommendations

ohhhh the thoughts of having an 18 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif i personally like the looks of 2 subs, but i mean i dont know anyone in my town with an 18
Trust me man, that 18 will absolutely blow you away compared to what you have now. Tune 30-33hz no matter what you get. No need to go any lower. I'm at 33.5 hz with a single SA-15 and it kills all the way down to 26-27hz. You're running 1500wrms at 2 ohms right? 2 SA-15's would hit even harder than that 18 but would be a bit under powered with 750 each. Just get a nice sturdy box. Definitely not 3/4 inch anything unless it's braced to hell and back. Honestly with 2 sa-15's you'll probably never turn the volume all the way up unless you're showing it off. It'll be really loud man.

never overkill when you have the ability to be the loudest system in your whole city.
the sad thing is i basically was ! hahaha, my town is full of people that toss kickers or p3s on a 500 watt amp and call it bumping, i had my alpines hooked up and the town **** there pants when i drive through our underground parking garage and set off all the alarms! not to mention i live in a town where people use sheeting to build boxes, ive seen 3 subs kill themselves they would rather be in a pre fab box..... but an 18 could be perfect, and cheaper than 2 15s

I highly doubt two SA 15s will keep up with an HDC4 even on 1.5k rms. That tiny bit of cone area does not offset the major motor, soft parts, Xmax and overall class difference those SAs are facing. They'll win an hdc3 18 but not an hdc4

so wait, youre saying that 2 15s will be really loud but the 18 wont? im pretty sure ill be having hearing loss anyways, and yeah the amp rates at 1500 at 2ohms, but the guy i bought it from sent me a pic saying it was tested at 1804 watts at 2, so im not exactly sure, as for the box ive been texting the stang to help me situate that

yeah sundowns are overpriced as sh*t, If you really are stuck on two 15s, i'd go with the FU audios instead, plenty of people gained on the termlab meter and the ear-o meter after switching from sundown sa to FU 750s. I'd still go with the hdc4 18 for that "F*cking beat your body to a bloody pulp" type of bass.

i do like the messing up my body, it just confuses me which would do that more hahaha is it that more surface area that is taken by subs the louder? but doesnt effect SPL?

They'll both be loud enough to cause you to feel your eardrums flexing a good bit. And you'll notice it's a little more difficult to breathe, lungs vibrating, etc. IMO the sa-15's will be a little louder. The hdc4 will just be woefully underpowered but obviously loud as crap

Cone area just increases efficiency. If it's louder, then it'll affect the spl. Those are the exact same thing really. Trust me man if you do your homework and get 2 beast 15's or 1 18, when you actually hook them up and listen to it, you'll wonder why you even worried in the first place about getting loud enough. 1500 watts and all that cone area is gonna be satisfying as hell haha

Its not just the surface area, its the Xmax(excursion) along with motor strength and stiff enough suspension to handle it.

What you'll learn later if you start competiing, a high DB score sometimes wont translate into body hurt and vice versa.

From what i see at the comps man, the SA line wont hang with HDC4s even if they have a cone area advantage. Plus in the future, if you want louder, all you need to do is to get a 3.5k to 5k amp on that sub and it'll be beyond ridiculous and handle everything you throw at it. Basically a step forward in future proofing rather than taking slow upgrades. I wasted soo much money doing slow upgrades when i could have just gotten the results i wanted with an borderline endgame setup and be happy with it.

This lol. Go hard or go home.

Next upgrade I'm getting something like 2 12" or 3 10" nsv4's and an ns1 and alts/batts. I would do even more/bigger subs but my trunk is not even close to big enough for even 1 18'" so I'll have to settle for 2x12 or 3x10 on a whole lot of power

Try 2 beefy 4th order capable 10s and a blow through. Gotta bypass that trunk. Or else you gotta cut some metal. It took a lot of work in my corolla trunk to get past 147 with just normal ported.

the box build is key here. get good plans and assemble properly. store bought "claiming tuned " dont have enough port area that ive seen anywaythat said, my first though was some good ol sa-15" as the yardsale opened.. not sure of current stock though..

I fold the seats down (lancer ralliart) and it isn't too bad. But it's pitifully less loud with the seats in their normal position. Pretty dissapointed about that. Was much louder in my acura rsx hatch but the box had 21"/cube port! Didn't know much about boxes in those days lol. My current car literally doesn't rattle at all though idk how this is possible I used a little deadener and ccf but what really did the truck was shoving big chunks of folded up notebook paper into spots that rattled... It worked what can I say.
