UPGRADING the mosfets to make amp more powerful??

yea i know but it made it look like u thought the amps were made in a way to where nothing could be modded. but yea i found an old high school friend who is a electrical engineer now and has actually built a couple amps hisself. ill see if he knows about this situ.

Anything can be "modded". The question becomes when does it turn into a fool's errand, vs. buying a purpose-built PCB for the power level you want //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Look at the differences of the Zenon boards as you go up in power, for starters.

It all depends on the amp. If your amp was beefy enough to handle the increased current of the better FET's, then you could mod it for more power. If it was built right on the edge initially (most are probably in this category) then you would have to upgrade much more than just the FET's. Off the top of my head, you would have to make sure the main transformer could handle the increased current, the PCB trace widths are adequate for the increased current (impossible to change yourself), and then past that you need to make sure the output transistors could produce more power.

There are other subtleties you would have to consider also (like the resistors mentioned earlier), but those are secondary to the main points mentioned above. Without knowing specifics about the amp or electrical upgrades in general, it would not be as simple as just swapping FET's.

No. You will not get "more power" by swapping the fets. You can make it more durable by putting higher dissipation fets. Such as moving from to220 to to247 package. Though one would have to match the fets with ones that have similar gate and switching characteristics, else you will have possible shoot through issues and fet driver death. If you do switch with fets that have a higher total gate charge, and slower swithing characteristics, you will have to change gate resistors, upgrade driver transistors, upgrade driver power supply, slow the carrier frequency, and possibly increase dead time depending on switching chars.

There are a few more things, but I'm on my iPhone.
