upgrading system

I currently have a 1000w Sony and a kenwood amp. Not very satisfying. And looking to upgrade. Spl being the important factor. I have about 7-800 for subs and amp.

To get the ball rolling I went to a local shop. Got a quote on 2 rockford p2s abd a rf 500 amp for a little under 1000 installed including 4ga wire.

I'm now torn with all the options online.

I like the specs of the soundqubed q1-1200d

Big question I have is: buy 2 entry level subs such as the hds212s

Or buy a higher level sub that would be the same rms as two. Such as the sundown audio x12 or ssa icon or the soundqubed hds312

I mostly listen to rap and will build my own box. I do carpentry so shouldn't be to hard to accomplish

I'm not looking to do the big 3 which is why im trying to stay around 1000w.

Just want a considerable upgrade.

The 1200 is a good little amp. I'd go with it. What space are you working with? Thats a good determining factor for sub choice

Upon further review. Kinda stuck on the soundqubed hdc3 and a aq2200 or the aq1200(if out wouldn't be underpowered. Sounds like a prefect matchup.

Wired at 1 ohm, the 1200.1 would not be enough to get full potential out of an hdc3 in the proper enclosure. You could cheat a little and make a bigger box for efficiency, but it would be close. Personally, I would not.

Since for some reason you don't want to do the big 3, I don't recommend getting the 2200.

U should do big 3 no matter what amp u get. But te aq1200.1 and 2 hs12s will do ya nice or sundown E woofers

I'd prefer that over the entry level because it seems like it would hold up better, have a smaller box, and have seen very impressive videos of them only being pushed by 1000-1500 and still rattle the whole car

Find some 4g wire for like 10 dollars and do big 3. It will be better then nothin.

Why do people spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on subs/amps without batting an eye, but skimp on wire? 4 gauge is cheap.

For the big three? It really won't take that much wire to do.

But to answer my question above.. What size amp needs the big 3? Id rather get 1 hdc over 2 HDS.. And it's only 300w more. If I got a 1500-1700 amp would it really be that bad of an idea?

Or should I really just get 2 HDS and the 1200

I think anything over 1000 needs the big 3. Anything over 1500 may need a secondary battery, 2k is where you may need a HO alt. Things get more advanced and complicated as you go up.

Do also plan on swapping out my battery for a yellow top. Or is that pointless without getting a alt
