Upgrading a Monsoon sound system - speakers question...

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade a Monsoon sound system in a 2002 Bonneville SSEi...

The stock amp is Monsoon...

The stock speakers (8 of them) are:

Front door: 6.5" and 1" tweeter

Rear door: 5.25"

Rear deck: 6 x 9

I have a few questions... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It seems as though some of the stock speakers are 2 ohms and some are 4 ohms... does the amp determine this?

Why would they put 5.25" in the rear doors - just for some mid-bass or fill?

Would you suggest changing the rear doors to 6.5" (with some minor adjustments to the door)?

Any thoughts on speakers? I really like the sound of MTX speakers (well the ones that I had 8 years ago...)

I like bass, but not the kind that the whole neighborhood can here - if you get what I mean... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks as always!

yes

fill

no keep it stock or don't use the rears

Get a budget for speakers.........

I would suggest a 5 channel amp that would give you a little bass if you ran a sub off of it. But others may not.

Will you be running the stock HU? If not, go Alpine or Pioneer.

If you plan to tear the whole thing out, get a budget and people will make suggestions according to that.

Hi!

Thanks for the reply.

I plan on keeping the stock HU - for a lot of reasons... it controls several things in the car... strangely...

I would also like to keep the amp, but am not sure if the amp is what dictates that some speakers have to be 2 ohms or not...?

I guess I have am "intermediate" level budget

Looking at under $500 (with an Infinity Basslink - $150, have one, it's great)

I really liked the sound of the MTX speakers I had installed 8 years ago... great bass, not overly bright highs and the price was right, not all the expensive, lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

In your case, you could get some Polk Audio speakers off ebay and still use your basslink.

If it were me and it is not, I would toss the whole system that's in there now and get all new stuff. That would require you to up your budget and electrical system if you do it that way, but in the end you will like it a lot better.
