upfiring in trunk... Cancellation?

well im the proud owner of a new 18" Sx sub, and the only way i can put it in my trunk is to fire it up. my trunk is only about 18 inches high, so my only choice is to fire it up.

i am planning on using aero ports, and facing them twards the rear of the vehicle.

if i do that, then make my box so that there is about 5 or inches of clearance between the top of the box and my decklid, will there be any cancellation issues?

should i fire the ports another direction? my seat does not fold down, and nor will i stoop to the level of taking off my rear seat.

does anyone have any other suggestions?

cool free is better... anyway i had a concept 18 (that im still trying to sell if your interested) in my maxima firing upward.. with the port firing back...i had a crossfire 15 firing towards the rear and the only difference was that my trunk flexed at the rear of the trunk more with the crossfire than the 18 so i guess if it's far enuf back in your trunk that it would matter

Word on the street is that subbass sound waves are realllllly long, and you don't really deal with cancellation too much in your scenario. I don't really even know if that's true. I read it somewhere.

youll be alright. If you have fold down seats just make sure you leave enough space so that the bass wave can travel past the enclosure into the cabin.

ehh, i'd like to stay with a box under 14 inches tall, otherwise its impossible to get it in without assembling in the trunk.

I've done plenty of experimenting with this in my buddy's Lexus LS400. We built a box for 2 15's and had ports and subs fire up, a couple of inches beneath the trunk. I wasn't very impressed. We took one of them out, and rear fired one by itself, and IMO it sounded better, and we both agreed as loud, if not louder than both.

They were in separate boxes because it was the only way we were going be able to build the box outside the trunk, and we didn't wish to do it inside.
