im going to be building a box for a old school **** cone se 10" tommorow for a freind. he whants the sub to be inverted on the top of the box(1.5cubes@33Hz) with the port firing at the rear. question is, will this affect performance vs. a normal rear firing sub/rear firing port enclosure? i dont whant to do it if it will hinder the performance of the sub.

thanks for the help,

Most people reccommend that the sub and port are on the same plane of the box, however I have seen many setups like the one you are describing, especially in cars with hatchbacks. It really should not affect performance noticably.

its going to be going in a 98jimmy. hopefully it will work out good.

i have up fore, rear port in my car, its very loud, but i know im loosing out on db's with it beeing aimed up, from experiance, when you aim everything back, the pressure loads to the back of the trunk better

i had a concept PT 12" in a box with both sub and port firering to the rea, tuned at 36hz with a PT 12" on a MTX 1500d hitting aprox. 150db at 38-39 hz (box was tuned for music)

now i have a Eclipse ti 15" with the sub up and port to the rear at 34 hz, i used to have the same amount of power to the 15" as i did the 12" and my db with the 15" was 137 on the new meter (6db lower or not from the old meter its still a big difference)

although now i've added a shit ton more power on a higher quality amp, its its insane, havn't had it metered but i'd say its in the mid 140's at a very low tone,

anyways i am confident that when i build a box to go in my trunk from the inside of my car so i can get it in there both firering back, im sure it will hit harder, espacailly since i've experimented with every kind of enclosure you can imagine and have noticed when both are firering back it is noticably louder and much deeper because of the way it louds in the trunk

it makes sense for a car i suppose, im going to be putting it in a 4door blazer, so i fugured it wouldnt matter

The bass will travel better with it facing the rear. As far as the ports, i don't think their direction will really affect it THAT much.

In my BMW i had rear firing, ported upward box. Check album / Real of Excursion and it was REDICULOUS!!!
