In WI i believe its not mandatory. my last job i could work 8 hours no break if i choose. Current job its not mandatory, but its a paid break.
In MI you also are required a 30 minute unpaid lunch break and 2 10 minute paid breaks if you work 8 hours I believe.More states have lunch laws than the list provided above. For example, I know in Iowa if you work 6 hours or more, the state law requires your employer to give you a lunch break (and you *must* take it), under penalty of a significant fine. In Illinois I believe its 6.5 hours.
