Understanding EQ's and Sound Processers better

OK, I'd like to get a little more info on which if any would help how my system sounds. I just switched out the Pioneer deck for a JVC nav deck which has lower preout voltage and I can tell the difference has i've had to increase my gain on the amp to match. I was eying an audiocontrol EQS and possibly a 6XS crossover.

I've got some ground noise I'd like to get rid of. And would like to have a little more control than what I have. Any other options would be appreciated. I have looked at a JBL MS-8 but seems more than I want to spend even used.

new project will have 2 Audiocontrol 2XS units and Epic-160 (maybe), previously owned a 6XS, EQS, EQL, Four.1, Three.1, KQ9 (Kicker), LC6i. if you are looking for better sound quality an EQ would be the route, if you looking to control what frequencies go to what speaker than a crossover. more info on you system and what you're looking to make it do.

Currently a JVC KW-NT3HDT deck, 2.5v preout, 4way HPF/LPF slope, 60-100 LPF, 80-160 HPF. The Massive Ck6's that I am looking to replace with either a set of Hertz HSK-165's or possibly CDT HD-62's. Amps in my sig. Sub until probably next weekend, changing to 12" 03 RE XXX.

Just trying to get better control of how my mids and highs sound and get a higher voltage output from deck.

My advice to you is to get a better HU with all of the features you want.

You already said you have noise in your system. Adding more things down the signal chain just increases your chances of noise.

Get a HU with enough EQ bands for you and maybe active capabilities. If you wait around and search you can find good deals. I sold my Pioneer 880PRS for like $115 and it was in excellent condition; I was just tired of looking at it.

I need a dd hu and don't want to spend 1k+ for a deck with the same features. I like my HU and had the same noise with the pioneer I had. As far as the noise I was hoping getting the 6xs would clean up the signal.

Until u find out exactly why you're getting the noise and fix that, I wouldn't expect anything you add to just knock it out.

Its engine whine, I hear it when I first start up the car and the deck is starting up, no music playing, and I don't hear it while music is playing. I know doing the big 3 helped my noise in the GTO, however I haven't done it to the Enclave since I don't have access to get to the alt....

Sounds like you may have gains set too high.

Its engine whine, I hear it when I first start up the car and the deck is starting up, no music playing, and I don't hear it while music is playing. I know doing the big 3 helped my noise in the GTO, however I haven't done it to the Enclave since I don't have access to get to the alt....

If you start the car before turning the deck on does it still make noise?

Putting a delay on the remote might solve the problem.

Sounds like you may have gains set too high.

Gain's are not too high, but they are set higher than what I had them at with the pioneer deck as it was 4v preouts. I'm just over half gain, they sound good just I don't have a lot of control over them.

The deck takes about 5-6 seconds to boot on, thats when I hear it. I haven't tried turning off the deck to see if I can hear it.

OP, the 6XS is not what you're wanting. all the 6XS is is an active crossover network with a built in line driver. an EQS or the like is more of what you're wanting to do. an EQ with more frequencies will give you a bit more control of your sound but in reality the average listener just needs 4 primary frequency to adjust.

yes, all Audiocontrol units are line drivers.
