In terms of the economy, I see conservatism as the voice (good metaphor) of small government, and, by extension, low taxes (primarily on the rich, taxes on the lower classes will remain low in either case). Given how capitalism is driven by greed, government needs to act as the check of capitalist cruelty as it has in the past 100 years, much to the benefit of almost every person. It also provides an enormous amount of benefits, from unemployment benefits, welfare, safety/health regulation, protection of rights, etc. A rational argument would require saying that "small government = good", when there is no reality to that statement. So the only argument the right has are emotional arguments. Things like government shouldn't be involved in private business, "what would the founding fathers want!" or just anti government sentiment in general which is disguised as a rational argument, but in reality is simply provoking an emotional response. A perfect example of the latter is the list of government waste audioholic brought up, which obviously works on him hook line and sinker.

Yep, me wanting our govt to stop wasting money, its politician to stop defrauding the citizens, and true transparency in govt spending... is all just me getting all emotional. Its your argument, how the poor poor middle class is being brutalized by the upper class, and that republicans are all just sociopaths liars, racists and sheep, is your rational, non-emotional argument. You are pushing towards an EU style government where even France is debt to gdp is about 99% Obama is pushing hard to get to that same level and it is not beneficial at all.If you want to play the game of X's and O's Obama and this government are on course for epic fail. Reality you can't say he is trying to fix Bush's time frame by having deficits 2 to 4 times greater.

It couldn't possibly be that I realize, like many liberals, that the way to maintain a decent economy for 99% of people starts from the bottom up, requires a strong middle class and provides benefits to those at the bottom paid by those who are well off enough to afford them. It couldn't just be that I actually give a **** about those less fortunate than me that have to scrape just to put a meal on their tables every night. No, it must just be that even though I live a very decent life and my family is well off, I'm STILL jealous for even more and even though I'm in a very good position to make money my self later in life, I just want an ENORMOUS amount of money from the government relative to what people get off of regular government benefits. As long as the government isn't sending me checks of $10k a month, I'm going to keep voting democrat because I'm just jealous.

There is no rational, critical, empirical gain to be had in worrying so much about government waste right now with so many other problems. Even if we eliminated it all in one snap of the finger, we'd still be faced with an enormous debt and an enormous deficit. It's foolish to worry about even forgetting the time, effort and legislation needed to end it all, including most likely an entire social movement to elect people in the government who would end it.

When you add up the pieces of your argument it is TOTALLY incoherent. You are like Robinhood without the means of doing what you want because there isn't enough money to spread, you would be taking money from those who earned it and giving it to someone else who didn't then you would also totally wreck the economy trying to do so because you would either let things crash or place price controls on goods and services that the government has no right to do especially on the scale that would need to be done at. You are using ESTIMATES from 2009 mine as stated was a projection for 2011. Are estimates cold hard facts or are they based on PROJECTIONS? That is also funny is you are using only a very small percentage of the EU as a defense for the downward spiral of the whole.
