I see a mischaracterization going on here.
If I could change one thing about politics in this country, it would be to reduce/eliminate the tendency for people (and politicians) to portray their opponents in the most extreme way possible. Im guilty of it too, even within this thread... calling people socialists and anarchists. Ive said much the same previously though, when I suggested our two political parties (both of them) use this tactic to scare people into taking their side, and even to mask their own incompetence and corruption. The idea of 'ya maybe we suck, but the other party is down right evil'. "Death panels", "socialists wanting to rob your wallet", "war mongers"... we hear this crap every single day, from our friends, our colleagues, our 'news media', even from our own government. It drags us down, both sides. Break the cycle, try to empathize, try to relate. Try not to demonize, try not to believe everything you hear from the side you like. The world would be a much better place.
I haven't been following this thread lately, so I dont know your political views much beyond what's on this last page. But I will say I get the feeling you are, or are at least viewed here, as liberal. But this above comment I quoted is an extremely, extremely, capitalistic view. And imo, an interesting perspective. The govt being involved in improving the healthcare system, but from the standpoint of a consumer, not a policy maker. Like I said, interesting perspective, and I thank you for making me think about it....The gov't has to fix it's part. The gov't is the single largest employer and must take an active role at least as far as it's own employees and dependants go. As such a big buyer it can use it's leverage to improve the health care for those millions who work for the gov't, and by doing so hopefully improve the framework of how millions of others can get affordable health care...
