Ive said much the same previously though, when I suggested our two political parties (both of them) use this tactic to scare people into taking their side, and even to mask their own incompetence and corruption. It drags us down, both sides. Break the cycle, try to empathize, try to relate. Try not to demonize, try not to believe everything you hear from the side you like.
