I just bought my first system ever. Feel like a kid on christmas eve.

Anyway, Wiring just got here.

System will be Mach5 IXL 12"

AQ1200D

And, all i needed was an enclosure. I went WAY over budget with the sub and amp so i was looking on craigslist.

Recommended size was 1.8 cubic feet, This box is like 1.75 cubic feet, and has no port.

Pretty sure its 3/4ths thick

Guy is selling it for 20$ lol

I just want something to hold it so i can hook it up asap. I dont have 100$ to blow on building one right now.

Does the box REALLY make that much of a difference? or will this be decent for now

Yes box does make a HUGE difference. If you have any of the tools to build a box with or know anyone that would loan you there's that would be the best way to go. At lowes I only payed like 28-30 for a sheet of mdf and it was a box for an 18. If I were you I would save up like 50 bucks buy the wood, screws, and caulk and just build a box for that specific sub. I think it would sound better ported anyways, that's just my opinion.

i would have to agree, might be able to get by on a half sheet, since its just a 12.

Prob could do half a sheet. You could even get lowes to cut it for you. Just get a box design off someone on here and take them the measurements and they will cut it. That way when you got home all you would have to do is put it together and seal it up with the caulk. They don't charge extra for cutting it i don't think.

**** thats easy.

Whats half a sheet??

and should I use 3/4 thick or 1 inch??

PM sent.

and they actually do sell 1 inch around my area, i just heard its expensive as hell.

Would it make a big difference?

What kind of enclosure is better depends on what you want out of it.

Most of this site are bassheads who'll tell you to go ported always, but a sub like the IXL can sound very good in a sealed box.

I'd prefer sealed, but that's just IMO.

whats the difference in sound between a sealed and ported?

You will get a lot of opinions on which is better or the type of sound each does but really what it comes down to is the actual design. Sealed is considered to be better in term's of sound quality but a properly built and designed ported box will sound really good and will be louder. If I were in your shoes I would go with a ported design and see what you think. If you aren't happy with it then when you get a little money together you can build a sealed box. I have always used ported but that's because I have only owned subs that were meant to be put into ported enclosures. I think you would be more then happy with any choice you made considering it sound's like you have never owned a system or had this nice of a system. Do you have any door speaker's or anything?
