the 7 inch touch screen headunit will be recessed into the dash on a small actuator with custom rails. The stock base headunit will be cut using only the faceplate. The stock faceplate will clip into the stock location when the aftermarket is recessed. Then after the stock plate is removed press a button and the aftermarket will slide flush with the dash.

So did you just have a weird dream or are you actually doing this? Got pics?

I've seen this done several times except the aftermarket unit wasn't recessed or on "rails".

I have seen this done as well. I have also seen people actually wire there new cd deck to the cars factory face plate so it looks like you have a factory radio in your car but it is actually for say a Pioneer 880p

these are my plans. My installer is doing this while my system gets installed. If i can get the stock faceplate to look like its installed without recessing i will just do that. Just want it as stealth as possible.
