Ugh blown mid?

Been running pioneer 6.5" rev components off a JL 300/4. My right mid has been cutting out but will come back to life if I spike the volume for a second. I get some distortion from that speaker and it's now off more than it's on.

Took the door panel off, speaker looked fine from what I could see, Switched channels to make sure it wasn't the amp that was the problem, was the same. I pushed the cone down and it started working again on and off.

Does this sound like a blown coil or more like a tinsel lead problem? Just don't see how a single voice coil speaker could be playing if the coil was blown. It's probably a lost speaker regardless, would just like to know.

I need new mids //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

might be worth it to pull off dustcap and see if there is a clean connection there, or any where that might be mroe obvious first and solder. then its time to upgrade!
Ha, only after I cut the dustcap off (irrepairable) did I realize it was a slightly loose tinsel on the connector. Couldn't tell it was covered with this rubber coating. I resoldered it and it is playing fine now no distortion! I was worried about air noise without the dustcap on but it seems to sound ok.

Thanks for the help guys, now I don't need to buy different mids. Well ... not until upgradeitis kicks in.
