Typr R 12 sounds horrible... need help!

I recently had a ported box made for my Type r 12 inch sub (1222D). Box is 2.15 cu ft and tuned to 33.5 hz. Sounds good on rap with deep bass but horrible on rock songs and very loose and boomy. Powered by a Phoenix Gold Xenon 600.1. No eq being used. Any ideas?

should of went sealed...imo ported boxes are for rap...rock sounds best in a sealed box...that and type r is not a sq sub..

Sealed woulda prolly been worse with Type R

Its prolly some setting on amp or HU thats cutting out the upper freq

not always true. i designed my whole system to excel on rock music and i am runing a ported sub.

to the OP, a different box may help, but i think that sub might just not be the best thing for rock music. same thing with my old Treo SSi. sounded great on rap, but sucked for rock which is primarily what i listen to.

but just because a sub is ported doesn't mean it cant sound good on rock, or have good SQ in general.

set the subsonic lower. it should be a bit below tuning not right at tuning.

hell, i don't even use the subsonic filter my amp has.

Yehh you could try a lil higher tuning......but i had 2 15Rs in 30hz tuning and it played upper notes fine

At 2 cu feet I would have to assume that the port length is pretty long. If it's short depending on the port size that may be your problem. Toss up a picture of the box if you can.

Type R isn't much of a sound quality sub, it can get loud and sound decent but it's not geared towards quality while a type x is all about sound quality. In your case a type x would probably be better.

depends on what his goal really is. if he wants all out SQ then yes, if he still wants to bump loud then no.

If you're expecting good sq then the type r is the wrong sub.
