TypeR bottoming out?No wayy!!!

What does it mean when a subwoofer bottoms out? Does it extend to maximum excursion with no bass? can someone show me a video of a sub bottoming out?

bottoming out is when you overexcurt the sub to where the Voice coil hits the back plate, it will make a nasty sound, dont know of any vids look on http://www.realmofexcursion.com for some sucky speakers in a wall socket or with 5000w or so, prolly wont be able to tell much from a vid though

And it isnt nessicarily the coil hitting the back plate. Could be suspension hitting the top plate or the cone hitting the basket. Depends on design.

Not all subs will bottom out either. Some will tear their tensile leads and others are simply suspneison limited.

It isnt a plesant sound.

Ive bottomed out RE8's...they are very easy to bottom out. 100w + Free air and the coil is nolonger connected to the cone and it looks like a mushroom.

thanks for the fast replies. But when i'm playing certain songs, instead of the subs hitting harder, they reach this huge excursion and go back to the regular bass. One of the songs is Bass, I love you (basss mechanic). I don't really hear anything that sounds like it's hitting anything. It just reaches a far excursion for a quick second than goes back to regular bass.......

it could be playing subsonic frequencies...

Your playing a real low note....you need more displacement to produce loud bass at those frequencies

I thought bottoming about was this booooooooiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnngggg sound. Sorry for dragging it out like that but my pioneers sound like 'boing' sound when pushed hard on a test tone.

bass i love you plays 30hz notes then drops down to 21hz, i doubt you box is going to extend that far down, so no your not going to hear that bass and the type R'zz probably arnt the best low end subs evar

That is how it sounds. I wish I could hear a real system one day. I assume I will in late november while visting KC.

i don't reall hear bass except for a low hum, but my whole car flexes. i can feel it in teh feet. I

What kinda box u got that L7 in and what size is the sub?? I have torn a tinsel lead before playing 20hz tones..
