Two subs, why would I not want to have them in the same space?

I've come across several times lately the recommendation that if you are going to run two sub drivers, either run them in different boxes, or at least separated by a division in the same box. Why is that, what's wrong with them having to share the same space?

They can mess each other up. Dual chamber //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Just build a box for 2, then make sure a piece of MDF splits the box evenly and separates the two.

When a sub shares a chamber with another sub, if one of the subs happens to blow, it puts added stress on the sub, and acts like a Passive Radiator IIRC, and it also "frees" up space in the box, so it's as if the sub has twice as much space as it's supposed to, allowing it to over-exert itself.

Cliffs: If one blows, it makes it more likely the other one will in a shared chamber

As for the single port with two subs, I don't quite understand that. It's one common space with one port. It'd be designed the same was as if it were for 1 driver, except two are put in.
