what would you do? two in a vented or 3 in a sealed?

putting p3 shallow 12's in a truck behind the rear seats(i already bought two to test)

can fit 2 in a reccomended size vented, or i can fit 3 in a sealed.

ive never messed with little small weak subs like this or with sealed boxes.

so i really am not sure what would be better.

power is unlimited

and wanting a harder hit and good low freq.

I would never recommend porting a driver with a Qes of .88, but obviously RF thinks it's ok... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Based on RF's recommended sizes:

Porting 2 will get you more peak output (over a narrow bandwidth), but it's gonna be a overly resonant 1 note wonder.

3 of them sealed (in ~.85 ft^3 each) will provide for cleaner, tighter bass response, and will get almost as loud as ported (but across a wider bandwidth).

now are you saying the 3 would get almost as loud as the 2? or

2 sealed would almost get as loud as 2 ported.

just making sure...

I'm saying 2 ported will have more peak output, than 3 sealed, but that the 3 sealed will have more output above and below that peak (due to having flatter response).
Maybe a rough graph will explain it better...

Blue Line: 3 sealed in 2.5 cu ft total, with 1200W RMS

Red Line: 2 ported in 2.5 total tuned to 45 Hz, with 800W RMS

This is includes the measured transfer function of my '84 GTI, just to give you some idea of what in-car response might be like with the choices you listed (of course it will vary from vehicle to vehicle).

thank you,

the range it will be used in mainly is in the higher output section of the ported. makes it hard to decide.

i think ill go with 3, more subs/more power is always better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.....somehow
