Two 15's sealed

Current setup is a single 15" SSD, in a 3.5cf enclosure tuned to 34Hz. It's getting 1000 watts rms at 1 ohm.

What I'm looking for though is two 15's SEALED that will get louder than my SSD and play well in a sealed enclosure. They will be ran by an AQ2200 at 1ohm. Price is $400 for both subs. What would you recomend?

Getting louder is iffy.
Really? I understand I'm going from ported to sealed, but I would have double the cone area and double the power. People usually see about a 3db increase going from sealed to ported(i know that statement has a lot of variables though), but at the same time doubling your cone area and power should see a theoretical increase of 6db. This would give me a net incease of 3db in theory.

Anyways, I noticed the 19ov.2 only requires 2.5cf sealed. maybe I should just double up on those?

man i couldnt find a better post then what im thinking! i running 1 15" fi Q at 1000rms, at 35 hrz. and like it but i have 2 15" Q's now and wanting to use in a sealed box. and also with an AQ2200 but i cant choose...sealed or ported?? if i used ported i wont have but only 7.8 or soo cubes (most likely less) but need help on what you guys have had luck on

sealed is very hard to get loud. there was a guy at usaci show last week that had 6 L7 15s sealed on about 3500 rms in a wall and only did 152.xx

other ppl have got 152s with one 15 in a ported box and like 2500 watts

i would get the q's.I had one mag 15 in a ported box getting 1000 rms and it was loud, i now have two 15 mags in a sealed box getting 1500 rms and its louder than the one mag. So you can definately put two 15's with the aq amp in a sealed box and be louder than your one ssd ported.

Anyone has experience with the SDX 15"? Looks like a low end monster and that's what I want. I'm thinking two of those sealed off 2200 rms should be noticeable louder than my 15 ported off 1000.

I don't have experience with it personally, but some people do whose ears I trust, and apparently it's a pretty decent speaker //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Not going to be very popular around here, with the price of Fi and AQ stuff.

Might also want to give the Mach 5 IXL 15" a look, too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As said prior, apples to oranges, but let's pretend it's apples to apples for a second.

Your theory on +3 db for a ported is correct in a sense. Your theory that two sealed subs would also create +3 db due to cone size is also correct. Then power handling could also be doubled.

Here's where it breaks down into real world application:

A ported sub designed for spl will out do two sealed subs, because your port tuning can be adjusted much higher than if you tuned for SQ. You can achieve peaks that are far higher with a ported box than the theoretical +3db a port implies. Bandpasses are even better at it, but they tend to be very large, and far more complicated a design, so we'll leave those out for now.

The second thing to consider, is can your alternator really put out the juice you think it can? When you start going above 2k watts, you really need to consider that voltage drop may actually be making your amps run much lower than you think they are.

Basically, for spl, ported > 2xsealed, assuming you want peak resonances.

If you want overall smooth frequency output at the lowest hz (30 and below), then 2 sealed with adequate power supplied by a proper alternator, will out do a ported. Honestly, there's very little real music that exists below 30hz, and you can still achieve good results down to 25-30hz with a low tuned ported box, using less current, and outperform the sealed.

Of course, if you're looking for pure SQ, go sealed.

If you want output, try modifying your port tuning or box size, and stick with a ported enclosure. You could also try a single Fi BTL instead, or similar sub, which is more designed for output than the Q's are.

Also, you'd have twice the budget for your 15 if you only buy one, so you can get the best single driver for you money instead of two lesser ones.
