two 15's or four 12's?

So im considering selling my HDC18, and I was gonna buy either two ICON 15's or four Obsidian 12's. Any arguments for any of the three sub set ups? Either set-up seems like an upgrade from the single 18.
Depending on the amount of room you have, the enclosure, the power, tuning, etc. either could yield great results. I'd personally go with 2 15s, it'll probably be cheaper than buying 4 12" subs. However, Obisidian is known for their good pricing on great products, so I guess a lot of it is about preference.

Space really isn't an issue, either way I go, my box is gonna be around 8-10 cubes, which is what I'm looking to use.

the obsidians are actually around 100 less than the ICON's, but I'd love to try some SSA products, and I have a thing for big woofers.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Big woofers are sexy woofers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

I like 15s. I'm gonna throw an SA-15 in my trunk. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

4x 2.5" vs 2x 3" I feel like I'd have more cone area, motor force and power handling(maybe?) with the obsidian's
you would have more of all but 2 15's just seems much more simple and cost effective. Also you can get two beefier subs vs 4 average subs.

4 OA 12's can be had for about the same as two ICON 15, so it's not any more cost effective, and only thing it simplifies is maybe making the box (cutting less holes)

48 inches of subwoofer vs 30 inches of subwoofer
should be an easy pick
lol that is not how you calculate cone area 4 12's = 452/ 2 15's = 384.

do what you want man

4 12's ~ 314.00 sq"

2 15's ~ 265.33 sq"

so there's more cone area...

i'm sure there's more motor force with the OA's, so I guess what I'm trying to figure out is are there any advantages to using two 15's over 4 12?
