two 12" aq hdc4s reconed to 18's?

I currently have the two 12" aq hdc4's but feel like changing it up a bit. Its in a 2 door honda accord but I might just take the back seat out and put a huge enclosure there. Would I see a big gain by reconing those 12's into 18's and making a new enclosure about 12 cu ft with either (two 10" ports) or (three 8" ports) firing into the trunk?

I pretty much have the same car as this guy and I liked his idea.

thanks

i always wondered, how is it possible to recone a sub into a bigger sub??? like you saying recone a 12" into a 18"
You simply pull the motor from the top assymbly (unbolt the motor from the basket) and bolt on an 18" basket, then build the softpart assembly inside the basket.

This thread is quite irrelevant... Lol. First we have @myjaja asking if he more than doubles his cone area if he will see a gain... Then we have @bgowdy31 wondering how you recone subs. Not sure if today is slow day or what.

lmao.. actually, my question is more like if that enclosure will work out well in my honda. I know for sure Ill gain just by getting more cone area but that enclosure is what I dont know too much about.

ha my bad. never did i ask how to actually do a recone(if you would read first). i know how to do a regular recone. i was wondering how to make a 12" to a 18"....
since i have been into car audio, i have never had to recone a sub....

There are tons of guys online that do it if you ever need. I've had Corey (splaudio) and Scott Sackett (ssackett) build mine. Scott has slowely moved away from building and toward his family but Corey is still building and designing some cutting edge equipment.

kew... ill keep this in mind. i can do reg recones, as in fixing my 18 if blow it... i just didnt understand make a 12 to a 18. ive seen people on the forum talke

about similar recones but never really seen or understood how it was done. but yea if i blow mine ill probly beef it up when i recone

After wasting 2 working subs, buying 18" frames and recones, you might as well sell your working subs and buy some 18's new. Even if the 12's were blown it's borderline worth doing them up to a different size (depending how cheap you can find baskets). If you don't mind having no back-seats and cargo area may as well just do a full wall. IMO box in the back seat is generally half-*** at best as far as performance, generally since the woofers are at the center of the cabin instead of at one end and you have just way more chances of cancellation betwen waves originating from the subs reflecting off of back window.

Never have I seen a back seat box do really well.

I was trying to stay away from a wall.. Its only a little 4 cylinder engine. I didnt want to to weigh it down too much. So removing the backseat and building a box similar to the one in the video is a bad idea? I was even thinking of walling off the trunk from the cabin.

Just grab a single 18, it will give you a gain..Do it big and grab a dd 18z and put 5kw to it..
I was thinking of that as well. What about an 18" smd? That sub looks pretty decent.
