Yep. At a minimum. There is more that goes into a successful replacement, but this is a good starting place.you need to get tweeters that like the same x over points and same impedance
How could 800hz be the culprit? Thats way to low of a frequency to be piercing, no? Well after allot of testing I found the harsh frequency is the 2.5k. I lowered it about 2-4db depending on the song and it sounds allot more natural. Thanks everyone for all the input though! Before you do, try EQ'ing the mid. If my memory serves me correctly, Boston tweets are crossed over above 3.2k...so work below that. Bostons usually have a very high peak coming from the mid that can make things sound harsh and fools people thinking it's the tweeter when it's not. EQ the mid and you may find your problem.
I've owned a few Boston components in my past and they all had that issue. I wanna say 800hz is the culprit but I'm not 100% certain.
changing polarity isn't a good option..try changing the polarity, it may help. I've honestly have never had a set of tweeters that sounded harsh that couldn't be fixed. If you have metal dome tweeters, try a set of silk dome
It doesn't hurt anything. Polarity and acoustic phase are different, the latter actually matters and the former is relative.changing polarity isn't a good option..
