Tweeters too Bright!

If they are scratchy, try to EQ the area between 2K & 5K and gently bring down the levels to resemble something like the Fletcher-Munson curve. If they are sizzling, gently reduce the 12K and above range.

This is sort of what I’ve been attempting to do. I think I’m at -1 on the 5k and -3 on the 12k. My deck is pretty limited.

OK everyone. Sorry, didn't know I would get this much feedback this fast. Yes the Pioneer in my sig is what I have. I believe it is a 7 band EQ (I will have to look again).

I have the tweets set to -3 on the Xovers. And I have the 12khz turned to -2. It is a huge improvement over the tweets being at 0 on the Xover. But still is a bit fatiguing when listening at high volumes.

I remember long ago I had the Infinity Kappa Perfects and had the tweets set at +3, and just thought it was cool to have loud tweets that made my ears bleed. Now I am fully committed to listening to loud music that doesn't hurt my ears. Lol.
plain and simple, you need a better head unit. It'll make a whole world of difference when you are capable of running active with 13 or more bands of EQ as well. With that kind of processing power, you can make any speaker sound good.

Back in the day when I had this issue and not much money I bought some round felt used for the bottom of furniture and cut it in half. I placed it over one half of the tweeter grill and problem solved. Add more of less in size to suit your taste.

Isn't that the same as blocking the sound?

I deff get what you all are saying. I guess what I would like to find out is what would I do with more processing power? Turn the higher frequencies down more? I probably won't invest much more money into this build, since its my beater car, but will grab a better deck if something pops up.

I appreciate the help.

I will give this a whirl. Thanks sir.

One thing to try that is free is to switch the polarity of the passenger side tweeter that should tone the higher frequencies down significantly. At least until you get a nicer head unit
I heard about this, I will give it a whirl. So only on the passenger side I switch it?

Thanks for the info.

All this will do is muddy the image or sound stage. It will to some extent absorb and dampen the frequencies that's wavelength falls within the thickness of the felt. Which will be the upper high frequencies.

I highly suggest reversing the polarity of one of the tweeters or remounting the tweeters to where they are off axis to your ears.

A carpet dash pad can work wonders as well

I suppose you’re right but I have no technical explanation for it. I got the idea from a high end home audio speaker company called Snell A Acoustics where I saw this felt pad half over their tweeters. Those speakers, which my uncle owned, sounded amazing.

There's one for 80 bucks....less than 100 that's comparable to the 80 prs. JVC and Jeff himself did a review on it. Has everything you need/want in it.

Yes switch one of them it doesnt matter which one i always do the passenger side out of habit.

What happens is the tweeters play out of phase and essentially cancel each other out. They will still work but they will be much more tame
