tweeters for my new set up(active)Help

so im selling all my stuff and gonna start over from scratch. my current set up included a deh-860mp(active) rockford fosgate first gen fanatic Q 6 3/4" components in a active configuration. Jl 400/4 and a 12w6v2 off a 500/1. Im moving to the premier deh 800, im keeping the jl amps and sub just want a new front stage. I think i wanna do a seperate tweeter this time and not from a component set. I know many different tweeters have different characteristic depending on their make up and material liek silk, aluminum, textile, etc etc etc. i like clean music and dont like the harshness of some of the metal dome tweeters ive heard at high volumes. My price limit is around $250-$300 on the tweeters alone and i dont wanna go horns so what company or model would be good mix of SQ and tone.

If you can fit them, generally the large format versions of tweeters yield better results. They are large though, like 2-3" in diameter with the mounting flange...again if you can fit them it's worth it.

In my case, I went with the B&G Neo3 planar tweeter...out of the few sets that I've run being LPG, Morel, and Vifa, these Neo3s are by far my favorite. Only downside is that their a square and take some fabrication to get them to fit.

There are millions of possible tweeters that you could use. I'm guessing you don't have any mids yet, so I would get a tweeter that can be crossed low in the case your mid cannot play well up high. You should really be shopping for both drivers at the same time, so you can match them accordingly - it may be easier for you. I would like to try the Peerless HDS. I have read some pretty good things about them and they are relatively inexpensive.

thanks, and im doing alot of research and reading so please be patient but thats where my problem lies, and this might sound stupid but i kinda of like to cross my tweeters kinda high. i like just having the minor detail coming from my tweets and not every and anything coming out my highs it tends to sound kinda harsh IMO. Then i have my mids kinda blended in, im working on my doors now doing some sheet metal work so i can have mids angled in. I just was wondering was their a tweeter composition besides silk that could give me the clean high but still give me the volume im looking 4. i heard some focal TX3 wave guides about 9-10 years ago that blew my mind but they were like $1000 which was out of my budget and i dont know if they even make them anymore.

And possiable ideas or help would be liked. Should i just up my budget to 400-500. Is their a solid all around tweeter thats on the market thats isnt a cheap tweeter $30 but for the price $25-500 that can keep up with any if most midrange woofers? their so many out their im trying to narrow it down to a top 10 and then go down from there.

I was thinking of running an active 3 way set up in my car on this go round. I have been reading threads about people using various products, and one thing I've noticed is that ALOT of the stuff is 8 ohm...Just an FYI, JL slash series amps don't like 8 ohm loads. The RIPS system is optimized for 1.5-4 ohms per channel. That's a problem I'm looking at right now, and I just build a new amp rack, too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

There is nothing wrong with running any amp above its lowest stable ohm load. When selecting drivers be sure to factor in efficiency (sensitivity) and not just the ohm reading. I would much rather have an efficient 8 ohm driver as opposed to a mildly efficient 4 ohm driver. A mid range or tweeter is not going to need a lot of power as it is.

did you even try using that slash amp with 8 ohms yet???

All of my speakers are 8 ohms except my sub and I have no complaints with my output capability

We had some problems with a batch of them a long time ago, I didn't know if they fixed them or if it was a fluke. We had weird impedance light goings on with impedances above 4 ohms...but that was when they first came out too...who knows, I'll be happy if it works, I have 300/4, 300/2 and 500/1. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You may think you don't like tweeters that play low and think they sound harsh because you've never heard a nice set of tweeters that can really play low. Trust me, you want your tweeters to play as low as you can. A good set of tweeters makes all the difference around 1500/2000-3500hz which is exactly the range where most people think something sounds 'harsh' if they are using substandard equipment - because it's either where their mids break up or where their tweets can't drop to. A badass component set sounds great throughout the crossover range, and that's what makes people say 'oh my god they sound so SMOOTH'.

yup. low crossover capable tweeters FTW!!

the question is how low do you need to run them. but it's always good to get mids that can be used high, and tweets that can be used low. gives you room for adjustment. if your mids can't be used up past 2.5k and your tweeters can't be used down past 3k then you may have problems.

but i will say one thing, a 6.5" mid should not be crossed higher than 2.5k/12db if off-axis in the doors because of beaming.

Which means you need tweets that can get LOWWWWWWWW

get low get low get LOWWWW

If i were you, OP, i'd try and score a set of CAL-27's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/drool.gif.b5e863e893038027711d4402f340dad0.gif I see them go up for sale here used occasionally for around 300-350. I even saw 2 sets go for sale @ the 200$ mark which IMO is a ****ing steal considering the power line CS set they come from MSRP's at over 1200$.. I think Seas makes some tweets in the same price range or a bit cheaper that are fairly comparable too.

There is a set of Vifa XT25 Ring Radiators for sale on DIYMA for like $45 shipped. Problem solved. Great, smooth tweets, just try to get them on axis if you can. The ones for sale over there are the slightly smaller format than the ones I have with will make them easier to incorporate in your install. Mine are like 4" across.

Do you have your tweets in the factory dash location firing up at the windshield?
