Tweeters cut out at high volume

Hmmm, what is the absolute max volume on your headunit? You want to set your max volume from your amp with the gains about 70% of the max volume on the head unit. Like you might have a Pioneer which is 62 so you might want to set your gains to max out at around 45ish on your headunit.

My vote is for your crossovers are protecting your tweets and kicking them off. I honestly can't think of any other explanation. Maybe you are clipping them and just not realizing?

But why would that cause my amp to protect? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Im having the same problem with my Kicker KS tweeters. They dont cut out all the way just get really quiet. Very annoying.. I stay above 13.8 volts all the time. I was thinking maybe the tweeters needed to be replaced. I have another set of crossovers so maybe ill try them. Im also using cheap RCAs so maybe that has something to do with it.

Could it be the quick change in Ohm? I'm not even sure it works that way but, I'm under the impression that the tweet and mid together equal one 4 ohm speaker, when used separately they change. Maybe the change in ohm confuses your amp? Like I said, that's just a shot in the dark.

Just seems super unlikely. But what do I know

Crossover reads 4 ohm at amp

Woofer reads 4 ohm at crossover

Tweeter reads 2 ohm at crossover

So I'll hook up the tweeter directly to the amp to see, what should I cross the amp at? Amp does 120@2 ohm, so how will I know if I'm throwing too much power at it? Will it sound distorted, or will it sound fine until it blows?

Frequency cutoff tho is vital if you do that... or put a tweeter saver on it before you do it so that blows first.

tweeter protection cicuit. you're clipping your tweets homie. stop clipping them.
yup, I posted the same thing a month ago and the guy wont listen

go buy a cheap crossover from a pawn shop or similar and with out the protection you can go as loud as you want.

or you can go with a CDT 560 crossover

If clipping is the problem, and caused by the gain being too high, then how would having more than enough power on tap (preventing clipping) not solve the problem? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
