Hey there, guys. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Haven't logged on for a long while. I'm building my '94 Celica and I'm aiming for good power, good looks, and good sound. The first two are done, so I'm left with the last one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif I'm not looking for brain aneurism-inducing bass, but I like bass to be louder and cleaner than the norm. I'm studying sound engineering in college and I've been making electronic music as a hobby since 2002 so I have pretty polished ears. I prefer solid, tight, siny bass instead of the usual boomy, loose, hollow-at-the-top bass ordinary people around here like. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

To give you an idea of my level of satisfaction and expectations of bass, I had a couple of 2009 Kicker CompVR 12" DVC subs and even one satisfied me. I moved it with a Crystal CAM 300.2 amp. It was solid and clean enough for my liking. It was enough to make my ears pretty itchy inside if I cranked it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif My hearing, even for being an Army helicopter mechanic/crewchief from 2000-2006, is top notch. I get tested yearly at the VA hospital.

I always test subs with My All from Mariah Carey since that's the type of bass that I like the most. I listen mostly to reggae roots (Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru), dancehall (Sean Paul, Beenie Man), and electronic music...mostly trance (Above & Beyond, Super 8 & Tab). I do like a lot of The Crystal Method's tracks, especially the older ones. They have a combo of these two items on eBay for $549 + shipping. I did read that this subwoofer cannot be sealed and it needs to be ported. Bummer. All input is welcome. Sorry for the long thread. I like to be detailed so people can know enough about my inquiries and share more. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Hmmm...so it's that power hungry? I don't want to have to change my alternator (space constraints) or add a third battery to my setup (weight constraints). I think that this sub is more than what I want. I don't wanna go deaf or win SPL competitions. I just want a sub for listening at an acceptable level that doesn't make breathing difficult, but also be able to crank it loud at the beach with the doors open and chill with friends. Even though wowing a few folks when they see it's just one 12" sub would be a nice bonus. What about a Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection 12"? Ugly SOBs but I've read that you don't need 1000 watts RMS to get them to set off alarms and rattle the crap out of cupboards from nearby houses. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Any other amps besides the Kicker ZX1000.1 that gives clean power for a good price?

Ha-ha. I don't know, man. It just looks too simple and the logo looks n00bish. I don't like busy-looking subs but I do enjoy a modern look. Hmmm, I've been reading about the Audioque 1200D. The price is a steal for such an amp, and it's not too big, which is awesome since my Celica's hatch is tiny and just my Signat ROM 4 takes most of the width. I cannot fit two amps side by side.

I want to have an amp rack built that hides the amps and just shows their face. I want it covered in black carpet. Something OEM looking, not flashy, and I want the sub centered on top of the spare tire. My car is not a daily driver but I want to have a spare. The roads around here ****, and so does my luck. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Sealed or ported? I like the sound of sealed bass better, plus a sealed enclosure takes less space. Even though I don't need the hatch for anything other than the spare and jack.

Celicas are fun, just like a larger crx in a way, least mine seems like it.

most people here don't worry about the looks of a sub, the performance is what counts to many of us. I understand what you're saying though, if it's not something you like, it's not something you like.

I have owned 1 of each AQ amp ( apart from the 20k one ) and I liked the 1200d the most due to the size. Get some of those adapters so you can do 1/0 gauge to the terminals and you're set.

Good lord, man. You're obliterating your Celi. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif How can you listen to that system in such a small space? I bet it's hard to breath in there, lol.

Hey, I opted for a 2 ohm Lethal Injection. I'll wire it in series so my Crystal CAM 300.2 can see 4 ohms, because the max power it's rated at is 600W RMS @ 4 ohm bridged. I think it'll sound louder and cleaner than anything I've had in my Celi before. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I think I'll be fine for now. I'm not too greedy when it comes to bass. If I ever need more, I'll get the AQ 1200D. To make this even more fun for now, I'll buy 4 Selenium or Eminence 8" drivers just to make some noise in the local car meets. I bet it'll be hilarious seeing a 500 horsepower Celica with a loud sound system. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

I had 24 selenium mids and 48 selenium st350 supertweeters last year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif sold them all on here before trying a new install in an astro I had ( traded it as well ).

The type R system in the celica was long gone, it hasn't had a newer system in it in a while. The setup was insanely loud to the ear and literally was breaking the car apart, however.. it was near impossible to do any hairtricks with it, i'm not sure what the problem was with that, thinking the sunroof was releasing a lot of the pressure and the port was too close to the back with the hatch down. The box would literally lift itself up on certain songs, i'll try to see if I still have the video of it doing that on my old phone. Just have to find it. As for the lethal Injection, where did you end up buying yours from? I was going to pick some up but ssa's store doesn't have them listed and as for where you said you didn't like the cone logo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif reverse mount that beast.

Reverse mouting looks too "showy" for me. My Celica is not exactly a sleeper, but my theme is stealthiness. The intercooler piping and intake manifold will be powdercoated in black wrinkle, and the valve cover in red wrinkle. I want an OEM look. I don't care for the "racing"/modified look. I want it to look clean and intimidating. To leave to the imagination. The only flashy thing about the car is the paint, because it's a modified blue from the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner and under the sun, it just eats your eyes from all the metal and pearl. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I want stealthiness with the sound system. I just want to show the faces of the amps, and the face of the woofer. Everything will be wrapped in black carpet or Alcantara if I lcan save a couple grand for the stuff. I want the amp rack and box to be easily removable if I want to go autocrossing or the quarter mile track. Those extra pounds mean important extra fractions of a second that could make the difference between a win and a loss, lol.

Thinking about it, if I leave the cone logo, people that see my car will probably be baffled and mind-screwed that such a "cheap" speaker sounds amazing, ha-ha.

I almost bought a Flatlyne but I want to make noise first. Not cool having "unpolished" speakers with an SQ sub, lol. If I want to make loud and dirty sound (not that Seleniums sound bad, but they sound worse than SQ speakers), might as well make loud and dirty bass and just enjoy the noise instead of focusing on SQ. I bought the LI last night from vertex.com. I went to SSA and they didn't have them.

How did your system sound? I bet you could here it from a mile away, huh? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif What alternator did you use? I have an XS Power battery in the trunk.

300 amp alt from excessive amperage, I was able to get it cheap with the 10-15% off for mentioning roe so I got the alt for roughly 235 shipped, couldn't beat that. System was very loud. I miss it everyday, still got the box in my house, filled with junk lol.

thanks for the link to vertex, didn't know about them honestly. Dunno why SSA doesn't have the LIs.
