Tweeter vs Dash Speaker Location

I was wondering the bonuses of each because I got a demo in a car today that had upgraded 3.5" dash speakers instead of mounted tweeters and it sounded perfect to me. I know the downside of the dash location is that they are shooting towards the windshield and that causes havoc with your soundstage but the one I listened to sounded better than most flush mounted tweeters. Basically I either use the dash location as my midrange/highs with a nice 3.5" or just use a tweeter aimed at me. Pros and Cons of both methods please.
