Tweeter Question

I just got a power acoustik dome tweeters today. I know its not the best brand but I paid $3 for them in a retail book so they will work til i re-do my audio in the spring. My question... The box claims that they have built in cross overs. Can I just wire them to my door speakers or should I go buy an external crossover from say wally world and do it that way? My door speakers are 195watt kickers. These are 200watt max. tweeters.

wow? how you want to hook them up? amp?

If you're talking about a deck, then forget it except if you want it to push your speaker at 8ohm... you won't get enough power to push the speakers

That first post was a joke, but yea. Little story for you

This reminds me of a homeboy install i did once. There was a guy that wanted me to check his car out to figure out why his tweeters werent playing anymore, come to find out he was running type R mids, and some kinda RF tweeters, with no crossovers. He had the tweets wired in parallel with the door speakers. The explanation i got from him was "man dawg i was listenin to mah shit and dat shit be tickin den next thing i know my shit wont crisp no mo and im like dem dawg" Come to find out the tweeters had melted/cracked domes somehow. So thatll probably be the outcome of your tweeters. Best thing to do is go invest in some sort of crossover, cheap is better than none. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and btw, yes some of the cheap tweeters do have "built in crossovers" which is just a little capacitor to filter out some frequencies, but they still sound horrible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I wired them dirtely to the door speakers to see how they would sound they don't sound all that bad and do help out a little bit. Granted, These are only temporary before I re-do my system and put some 3/4'' kicker tweeters in.
