Tweeter Pods - My 1st Attempt

Got a set of the Alpine SPX Pro tweets from Pacparts the other week and finally gave them a listen. Rather impressive sounding and better output off axis vs the Vifa's I have now. Also hard to pass up for $45 shipped.

Decided it was time to try my hand at fiberglassing. Originally was going to do the fleece/resin routine, but ended up using the pre-mixed glass and just molding it to the shape I wanted. After that was sanded down I slapped on a coat of some off brand "gold" body filler and it sanded down very easily using a "mouse" sander.

Tweeters snugly fit into 1 1/2" PVC, so once I got the right angles for them I hot glued them in place and went to town. Technique was much like frosting cupcakes if you've ever done that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Only got a few pics of the first one. Will pick up some spot putty tomorrow for a couple of pinholes I noticed after getting a few coats of primer on. Plan to finish them off in a light textured satin black as that's pretty much what the factory look was.

Not bad for a fiberglass noobie...

Nice work, I got some a-pillars I could send you to "practice" on lol.

not bad for first time. takes alot of practise to get good at FGing. (im coved in bondo and bondo dust) but yeah man came out good. good job.
It's definitely an "art" trying to sand/shape it. It looked really good until I got the primer on, then I could see some high/low spots, pinholes, etc...

More sanding plus a few coats of primer and they'll be good enough for me as it's not a show car.

Now I gotta find something to try out the fleece/resin technique on as I'm addicted to the smell of FG //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

good job as always Mike. are they gonna be set for Alex mode? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
I'm always ready to cut your car up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Looks good.
No shots of the actual process though?
I was doing this while building a box, so no time for pics. I found a few tutorials out there, but honestly it's pretty simple and the actual FG'ing part you get the hang of as you go...

Hey bro give me a call or PM when your done. I want to come over and check that shit out and maybe have you do some future figerglassing for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

No problem and you still need a HT demo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

So you're trying to corner the box and fiberglass market in Illinois? Cut me in or cut it out............//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Those do look nice though.
