Tweeter I can cross at 2khz?

Yeah, I've check it out from time to time. There's still a ton of tweets that aren't covered. If you saw the "DFW High Noon" testing that went on with several tweeters, you might remember the xbl^2 tweet that Dan Wiggins has made and is waiting to OEM for someone. The guys doing the testing said it handled a 2khz and 1.6khz crossover just fine...but you can't get any unless some company decides to use them. They just lucked out and got some prototype...
yo!! xbl^2 tweets??? im in

The issue had always been, where will I put the mids, and what size can I run? Also, efficiency is a big deal, as I love to crank my music...since most midranges are in the mid/upper 80's with efficiency, I'd really need to run two per side.
I have actually been playing around with that idea, using a pair of 3" fullranges/midranges and a tweeter on each side. I can fit up to 3" speakers in my a-pillar/dash area. Here's something I mocked up to try out...it's a pair of the TB alum/mag cone fullranges and a Vifa tweeter. I was planning on running 200hz and 6.3khz crossovers for the 3-way setup...just gotta get some 8's.

Consider putting the tweeter in the middle, so its an MTM instead of a TMM

Seems like I'd have too many cancellation issues having the mids that far apart...would I not? They'll be playing 200-6.3, so I figured keeping them as close as possible would be optimal.

With the proper slopes and Xover point, you wont have any cancellation directly caused by the speakers being far apart. When running a single woofer the lobe will fire out and downwards. Having the gap will improve balance, due to the distance from the side and bottom. Instead of a single null that creates a big dip in the response, you'll have two nulls but the second woofer will fill in some of the other null to each other, instead of one big dip you'll have two shallow dips; smoother response.

In Home audio its a little easier to implement because you can avoid a lot of diffraction, have greater distances, and less phase shifts with a bigger room (meaning you will have a larger sweet spot to sit in). In vertical MTM alignment it will narrow the vertical dispersion response to help cope with some reflections from top to bottom, but you stage will still be wide. In a horizontal MTM design its the same thing but instead of top to bottom it is left to right.

You will have some interesting results doing this in your truck, I cannot tell you if it will sound better or not. But its worth the experiment! I would love to hear it when you get started.

Well MTM it is...it might be a while though since I just don't have much time to work on anything these days. But I am going to grab those SLS 8's from azngotskills tomorrow, so I've got my dedicated mid covered.

Also, horns mightbe an option now...thos ID vids that use my truck are making me motivated to try out horns.

The horns will always have a low stage, unless you implement some "super tweeters" on the dash to help lift it. But if you had the option to do that, that means you have the processing for it, which means you could run a 3 way front stage all along. So why not run a midbass, midrange, and a tweet. Imho it would be easier to tune compared to a horn. But that is just an opinion. Try it, if you end up liking, more power to you! If you end up making them work, please please let me hear it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The horns would no doubt keep up with your 21" sub :p

p.s. Cowboys won today; 37-21!

The 21"er is gone...I just have a pair of original 10" Assassins that I'll be running off a 4 channel(not sure which configuration of 4 channel amps I'll use, but I have three at the moment, all around the same 4x100 power). 4ft^3 at 30hz is the plan, but I might do 28hz like the last box I had for them.

In all honesty, horns are 99% not going to happen. I'm about to get some of those TB 3" bamboo fullranges that a few people were praisig at diyma. Since I'll have my midranges and tweets aiming right at me, paper cone mids and soft dome tweets will be my friend I think. I tried those mids in the photo above, which are made of aluminum and magnesium, and they'e just too bright diretly on axis...I like a more laid back sound.
