Greetings! My full setup is not quite a year old, and it's been performing admirably...save for a little noise, and I'm finally fed up. Help!!
I have a bit of a Frankenstein MB Quart component set up front with those sweet, sweet Q-Line tweeters in my a-pillars. A Kenwood XR-5S is running the components in bridged mode, so (theoretically) each component set is getting up to 160 watts RMS.
Each tweeter produces a buzzing sound when the system is on. It's present whenever the amp is on, and does not change with the music. It does change with the volume and gets...faster as I rev up the engine. It's more like a fast ticking than a buzz, and the ticking gets faster in conjunction with the RPMs. It's clearly related to the engine -- the sound is gone, system is totally clean, when the engine's off.
To compensate I've fiddled with the amp's gains quite a bit to the point that I can live with the buzzing/ticking when the music's paused and can only hear it through the music at very low volumes. But this means the gains are a bit lower than optimal; I sometimes take the deck up into the 30s on volume (out of a max of 35).
So where's this noise likely coming from? And what can I do to fix it? Would a line driver help? Something wrong in the wiring? Crappy alternator? Need better spark plug wiring? What is the deal?!?!
I installed the whole setup myself, which made for a fun weekend...but also means I have nobody to hold accountable for the buzzing but myself. :/
My setup:
2004 Honda Element
Kenwood KIV-BT900 (tha headunit -- 4V preamps, internal amp off)
Kenwood XR-5S (80W x 4, 350w x 1)
Kenwood KAC-5204 (60w x 2)
The XR-5S's four channels are bridged, running a set of MB Quart components up front. (I call these a Frankenstein since the setup is made of tweeters and crossovers from the QSD-216 set and woofers from the QSC-216 set.) It's sub channel runs a Pioneer slim 10" subwoofer in the back.
The KAC-5204 runs the rear speakers, MB-Quart RKC 116 coaxials.
Any help you could offer would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!
