turning a prefab sealed into a ported?

i was hearing that you can convert a sealed box into a ported by using aero ports? i was wondering how i would go about doing this.

my subs call for 1.25cu ft for sealed, and 2cu ft for ported. thats each. so i have two, and that means 3 for sealed, and 4 for ported. my box i have right now is the prefab that came with them, so im assuming the box is made to those specs.

any help?

yeah i know, its a shitty setup anyways, i dont have a lot of money right now. but i want a ported box, without building a whole new box( ill just do that when i get new subs),

yeah, well thats awesome. but i didnt ask you guys what i should do to make a ported box, i asked you guys how to put in an aero port, or if it would even work.

it wont work. If the sealed box is to specs and its 3 cubes, then its too small for ported. then you still have to add it port displacement. with takes up more volume, unless its and external port.

Figure out what cubic feet your box is, then find out how you need to setup the aero ports for the tuning you want. Cut the holes in the box for the ports and then install them.
thanks. does it matter where i put the ports?

and do i choose the frequency or is that sub specific?

There are certain places to put ports for allowing air to travel better, but in your case it probably doesn't matter and you won't notice a difference. As for tuning, it can be somewhat speaker specific, but you can just tune accordingly to what music you listen to on a daily basis.

alright, so if i put them behind the subs, facing away from them, thats fine? i can fit them into the front where the cones are. and i listen to pretty much only rap. whats a good frequency? and what exactly does tuning it mean? is that what frequency will be the loudest? or is that the lowest it will go.

I wouldn't put the ports where they are directly behind the speakers.

If you listen to rap, the tones they use are typically a lower frequency, so I would tune lower, say 32hz. When tuning a box to a certain frequency, that frequency and those nearest to it are louder.
