Turn Sub down on HU before....

I've always read that before setting gains for your sub amp to turn the Sub level ALL the way down on your HU. Why is this? I've heard its to not send a clipped low-level signal to the amp, but by raising the Sub level aren't you getting closer to the Pre-out voltage of 4v, 2v, etc??

Whoever told you that is an idiot. You want the bass boost set to zero, but you want the sub level all the way up.
