Turn on/off pop

I get a nasty pop which is a pretty common problem. It does it only when I take off the face plate or put it on when the car is on. If the car is off and I put on the plate or remove it and then start the car there is no pop. Also if I start the car without the plate there is a alt whine that goes away as soon as I put the faceplate on. Is this an issue with my headunits ground, I used the harness that uses the factory ground, should I start with regrounding the HU?

change your ground.

while at it check all your wiring.

x2 on checking your ground and wiring.

Also do you have an amp? If so check the wiring for that too, make sure nothing is stripped and in coming into contact with anything.
