Tuning with Clarion DRZ9255

My system sounds good; however I want it to sound better. I have it tuned by ear to the best of my ability.

Someone suggested the Alpine PXE-H650 Audio Processor; wouldn't that be counter productive Digital to Analog back to Digital?

What can I do now for better SQ?

You would NOT gain SQ by adding that processor to your 9255 (in my opinion).

I would suggest, researching some computer based tuning aids.. There's some good reading in diymobileaudio's forum about that.

But I say, you have all you need with that head unit to sound absolutely fabulous, trick is, getting the x-overs right, the time-alignment perfect, and the eq as flat as it can go.. Can be as simple as test tones on disc, or via an RTA to do a freq. plot to see where your response is suffering, but that doesn't necessarily take into account if you have the right x-over points and slopes for your speakers and cabin and if you have the TA as good as it can go.

But of course, if you really want to go with a different setup such as the PXE, send me that DRZ... No point in just throwing it away. hehehehe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What I'm looking for (I think) is some kind of way to tune my system with something other than my ear for a more rounded overall sound. DIY is down for awhile and I'm looking at what some of my alternatives are.

I sure wish (repeat broken record statement) that Clarion would make a budget poor man's DRZ that isn't as cheap as the next one down.. The 775 is a far far far cry from the DRZ, even though it's an active-capable and fairly decent head unit. It's still a timex, next to their rolex.

Yeah sounds like you're ready to step over into the pc-based tuning systems... Basically a laptop with good external soundcard, mic preamp and a good microphone and the right software, and you can dial that badboy in.

A guy named npdang has done some extensive write-ups on that very topic and there's TONS of info on tuning when DIYMA comes back up. If you have the cash to put into a little hardware and software, you can get that DRZ dialed in big-time.. Then it should be as good as the rest of your components and speaker install and placement and the constraints of the car environment.

I contacted npdang, I wanted him to tune my system with an RTA; he basically said no and now he's thinking about it. I'll be looking into the pc-based tuning solution.
