Tuning Question

the amp controls what frequencies it can play with the lpf. but the box dictates hugely how the sub performs. and tuning of the box is for ported boxes mostly. no one uses bandpass and sealed boxes can be tuned but not like ported. it has to do with the length of the port as well as the total cubes of the box.

this is going to be one of those things that's going to be really hard to get through my head, I can tell already //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Its not that I don't like the answers, just I don't understand 'em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for helpin, i'll see what google says

a ported box will give you a peak in output usually about an octave above tuning...

ex: a box tuned at 32 hz will 'usually' give you a peak in output at about 37-39hz

a sealed box will usually give you a relativly flat response... almost no peaks

what does this mean??

ported enclosures are more effecient at 'about' tuning frequency

what does that mean???

its louder at about tuning freq.

I don't understand that part.
The sub will play at whatever frequency the amp shoves into it.

normally it will, if you 'shove' a 30hz tone at a sub in a ported box tuned at 60hz your not going to like the output 1 bit... nor will the sub

this is where sub-sonic filters come in to play, you usually set a subsonic filter 8-10hz below the tuning of the box to prevent the sub from playing free-air in the event of a low freq.
