Tuning help

Ok so I just got my new ported box today. It is tuned to 38hz and has 3 foot cubic internal volume. I have a Hifonics Brutus BXI2008D. The subs I am running are 2 Kicker CVR 12's. I wanted to get the optimal performance out of these subs. What should I adjust on the Hifonics. I am pretty sure they are adjusted to what they with stock. Also I am running 12 gauge wire from the amp to the subs. Will 4 gauge work? Yes, I am new to this, but we all have to start somewhere.

Thanks, Jimmy

12 gauge is fine for your subs. 4 gauge also works for power and ground.

As for adjusting your amp, leave the bass boost at zero. Adjust your sub sonic filter to whatever your box is tuned to (so 38). Adjust your LPF to what sounds good to you, most people seem to use somewhere in the range of 70-90.

And as for gain, you can do it by ear. Basically you play a song you are familiar with, put the head unit volume at 3/4 of the way up, and slowly turn the gain up until your subs start to distort, then back off a little.

I would recommend using a multimeter to set the gains if you have one, tho. Do a search if you do for the instructions on how.

anything over 10g for a speaker connection and you are wasting money. stick with your 12g.

it's hard to hear distortion with music playing even to the experienced ear. instead i would suggest you use a 100hz sine wav to listen for distortion to set the gains.
