tuning for ported box

Does anyone know a good size ported box and what to tune it to for the 2004 type r's. Ive searched around but can't seem to find anyhting on the older version of the type r's. It would be for two or three type r 12's in individual boxes. Im looking more for spl but still want some sq and i listen mostly to rap

~1.6-1.8 each is what I've heard and built mine to. I have 2 12"s btw; the box is ~3.7ft^3 tuned at 34hz...But to be comletly honest, they sounded better in an oversized sealed box.

How many subs total will you be using,2 or 3?

Unless you can fit a box that is wider than 42" to 44" the don't count on being able to have three.

What are the measurements of your trunk?

Measure between the wheel wells and from the front of the trunk to the back of the trunk and how tall it is from the trunk floor to the rear deck.

Three can probably be done depending on the size of your trunk or space.

If you are for SPL then a bigger ported box is the way to go from what I have learned.

Crutchfield recommends a 2 foot ^3 ported box tuned to about 33Hz and Alpine's 500w RMS Type R's manual recommends a 1.7 foot ^3 ported box tuned to 33Hz.

I would say bare minimum 1.6 cubes per sub but for more SPL go with a larger box like 4 cubes or 4.5 cubes or even 5 cubes all tuned somewhere between 30Hz and 35 Hz.

I am going to be building both Moe Lesters 4.5 feet ^3 tuned to 30Hz and the 5 feet ^3 tuned at 34 Hz.

Right now i have two ported in a 1.5 cube box each but it is one of the crappy ones on ebay so i dont know the tuning. The opening to the trunk is small so i would have each sub in its own box rather then one long box. I was hoping that this would give me a little extra room to fit the third sub. I am thinking of adding a third sub which is why i said 2 or 3. so you think the 1.75 at 32 hzwould be better? you also said the 500w rms, mine are the older 300w rms.

I'd go w/ about 2-2.5 cubes each. Also, why do you want them in different boxes? It just takes up more room IMO.
Read the thread next time buddy before giving the wrong advice....He's using the 2004 R's not the 05's.

1.6ft^3 per sub would be fine and tuned to 32 would be great also. Do one large box, i.e. a shared chamber. Its easier to design.

Measure between the wheel wells and from the front of the trunk to the back of the trunk and how tall it is from the trunk floor to the rear deck
Unless your building in trunk these numbers are next to useless. If you cant fit it in the trunk what good is the box? Measure your trunk opening rather than your max in-trunk dimensions.

Just for an idea...my box is 13.5" Tall, 34"wide and I believe 22.5" deep. and that is 3.8ft^3 tuned to 34hz.

The reason i need them in individual boxes is that my trunk opening is too small. I originally had them in one large box but i got a new car and it wouldnt fit so i had to cut it in half to give them there own chamber.

Would two subs ported in a 2 cuft box each sound better than three ported in a 1.5 cuft box each
