Tuned Frequency

How do you calculate the tuned frequency of an enclosure if the builder doesn't tell you? For example this box seems perfect for me but I don't know what its tuned too. Its specs are

Type of Enclosure: Vented

Enclosure Sub Size: Single 12"

Dimensions in Inches: 15" L x 22" W x 13.5 H"

Top and Bottom Depth: 15"

Mounting Depth: up to 14.375" (enough depth for any sub on the market)

Gross Volume Per Sub (Measurement for the outer dimensions of the box): 2.5 Cubic Feet

Net Volume Per Sub (Measurement for the outer dimensions of the box less the thickness of the wood): 1.8 Cubic Feet

Thank you!

you need to know the port length and width

Well 1.8 net could be too small for some subs or just perfect for others. You would need to know the exact dimensions of the port which is kinda hard to figure out if you can't physically measure the port. Where or who are you getting your box from?

There's an easy way to figure out tuning though. All you gotta do is download a free tone generator app on your phone. Then hook it up to your headunit. Try to guess what frequency it is by going up and down on the hz. Look at your sub while you are doing this. If the woofer is moving a lot, you are far away from your tuned frequency. Try to get closer to where the sub moves the LEAST. When you get to the place where the sub doesn't move at all or barely at all, then you have found your tuning frequency. I hope this helped you out.

measure with a tape measurement, Go straight down the center of the port and straight down the center after the L the bend and add the two, thats your port length. port width and height should be easy enough for you to figure out.

if its something from ebay or amazon, its most likely garbage lol.

Try to go custom local or if you have basic tools like a drill/electric screw driver, caulk gun, and a friend/relative with a jigsaw. You can easily build your own box, just buy the wood at home depot and have the guys there cut it all out for you, take it home, glue and screw, cut out the hole then you are done.

If you really want to buy premade, Go with a mobile soundworks enclosure.

I don't have a way to cut-out the subwoofer hole otherwise I would try making a box myself. It's funny you said mobile sound works because I have bought a box from them in the past and I'm currently talking to the guy to see if he can open this new box up .25" for me. Just like the box I ordered years ago the sub I'm going to use now is .25" bigger than his cutout. Last time I didn't notice before ordering and it was a pain in the balls to open it up that little bit w/o the tools.

I'm also communicating with a member on here from the vendor section who makes custom boxes. Thanks for you help again!

Jigsaw is cheap enough.

if you plan on doing anything with wood, get a jigsaw. they are not much at all....

see if you get one you can make your own boxes..... its cheaper then paying somebody to do it right ??

i payed somebody on here just for the plans and im going to make it.
