Im sure the prob stems from your crappy head unit (no offense intended). If at all possible, get a portable cd player from walmart for $9 and a dual RCA output to mini jack input for plugging into the cd player, and run your rca cables to it instead of your head unit......if the noise goes away then the source is your head unit.

Yeah, I upgraded from my cheap JVC Arsenal head unit to my Pioneer Premier P880PRS... almost eliminated my whine completely.

Maybe it was my crappy RCA cables, because at the time they were radio shack cheapies. My head unit is a 2006 clarion, so it couldn't have been that. Perhaps it was a coincidence. Oh well, no use trying to argue things that were in the past. Thanks for the info guys, I'll be sure not to tell people to seperate their cables from now on if they hear engine noise. Hopefully I run into the manager over at circuit city, and I'll be sure to tell him the same thing you guys told me, so he doesn't go around telling any more people false information.

c) Your sarcasm is poorly hidden and it's a low-rent manner of response to information that is given not to flame but rather to educate. There are MANY old-wives tales, if you will, regarding pretty much any subject you can think of. Said tales have a strange tendency in being repeated over and over and over while being presented as fact no matter how many times these tales are soundly disproven by irrefutable fact. Proof positive of this fact is your assertion that the manager of Circuit City forced such nonsense upon you.

I'm with Helo on this one, fella, my power cabling is run as close to my interconnects as possible (they are zip-tied together, matter of fact) and when there is no source material being played even with the volume cranked as high as it will go the only thing you hear in my car is your own breath (independent 0-bit mute FTW! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

In the most serious way possible, I'm glad I learned this information about the power/rca cables, and thank you for teaching me how to spell separate correctly.
