The spray foam was my original thinking but what if it doesnt work? That crap has to be very hard or nearly impossible to get out.

Actually, it's really easy to get out. I used it in my doors. It kinda just "peels" off, but comes off as one big piece. At least it did in my door.

expanding foam will work but be careful with it. it will expand a lot and possibly damage things if not done carefully.

Now im scared to use it. So what could go wrong and is their any pointers to using it? Or should I just not use it?

It's not that bad. Just do a bit at a time. It will expand pretty quickly and you'll get an idea of how much more to put on.

I used it inside my door to fill holes.

you could also use the stuff they make that expands less and slower if your worried. i think it's for windows and doors or something. it's in a diffeerent can but from the same makers. i used it on my plastic door skins to add some mass and strength to them. i need to grab another couple cans though and do more.
