I have a GMC 1993 F/S ext/cab well my back speakers are 4X6 and I have replaced them already but again they sound busted well what I want to do is remove the 4X6 speakers and install some old New stock Cherwin Vega IT 693 6X9 speakers but I’m thinking will they sound better in gray boxes that are available for them on eBay or should I place them where the stock 4X6 speakers are and I was thinking of pushing them with a amp or should I just push them with my Alpine HU which is just 18 watts my front ones sound loud enough with just the Alpine?

Thanks! RJ

I perfer the 6X9 because I have them brand new and I have used some before I like how they sound.

u need amp or hu with a xover to keep speakers from blowing and a sub.. even 1 10 sealed to make up for the bass u loose with the xover on speakers but then it'll play cleaner speakers won't distort..

My Alpine HU has a crossover and so does the Rockford Fosgste 4 channel amp have one and my plans are to use the amp to push the 6X9 speakers but like I said I think my HU pushes my MA Audio 4X6 front speakers enough oh I running another Fosgate pushing my 12” Sub now I’m thinking might the rear speakers sound better in the gray speaker boxes or where it is showing on the site I posted?

Thanks! RJ

One of the 4X6 speakers in the back sounds ugly like if it’s torn.

well a box can better but where those are should work.. u should set the hp xover to like 300hz fr the 4x6 and they should last (don't turn hu volume past 80% max) set 6x9 xover to 80hz should be ok but not much bass.. u can power fronts with hu with hp set high and power 6x9 with 2 channels of the amp and get 1 10" sub bridge other 2 channels to it..

6.5" every where or just up front (if u had a way to put them in doors) and only use 2 with sub in back is best way.. most of us don't use rear speakers at all..

I like 6X9 speakers and you said they will sound better in the gray boxes available for them right or wrong??

I was thinking of placing the boxes over where the rear speakers were but to me they would look better installed where the stock speakers were take a look at the site I posted above and thanks for your input and I think the 6X9 speakers are going to sound awesome they are rated way up there and are made real good.

i saw it looks good.. if the mounting location is good meaning pretty well sealed (get 1 sheet mat to put on metal speaker is mounted on that will help some).. if the location is a "box" it's fine, i've seen the little boxes sound good or bad that could be based on location or speaker though.. u can sit a speaker in the cardboard box it came it wired up and see it sounds 100x better than free air..

I ordered some acoustic sound baffles to push the sound out and protect them from rain Water if the panel might leak like on automobile doors ok thanks for the info I will let you know how it came out.

The 6X9 insulation covers came in I will probably go and get them installed tomorrow along with a Rockford Fosgste 4040 DSM 4 channel amp that I have it’s going to rock.

Took my truck to the shop to do the work but the guy that gave me the price was fired now this guy wants more so I’m told him I’m going to think about it so after I called other shops he is giving me a good deal will see when I take it.

Ok guys had the Cerwin Vega 6X9 speakers installed it came out great much....better than the 4X6 speakers my son set up my CDA9854 HU the right way he knows about that stuff I’m pushing the 6X9 and 4X6 speakers with a JBL amp my Subwoofer has a old school Fosgate amp so my 6X9 speakers are running my mids let me tell you guys it sounds good or it’s the best sound system I have ever had in my rides later on I might try some 4” Focal speakers I found for $249.00 but for now I’m happy with my 4X6 MA Audio speakers they sound much better than some MB Quart I tried out.

I used some good brand RCA wires instead of cheap ones.

back speakers are pointless. install some good 2 ways and get a 400x2 or a 150x4 and go active

So on my GMC F/S 1993 Ext/Cab where would you put the speakers to sound better?

I’m tall so my seat is all the way back and I adjusted the fader so the back speakers won’t drown out the front speakers and my hearing

isn’t all that good so for me I’m happy with what I have.

What one person might like another might not agree or we would all be having the same things and so on.
