tricking amp? 4Ohm sub, want 2Ohm load

wow, i love how a simple post starts a flame war.... anyways, that sub will be fine with the imput and boost maxxed. say whatever you want.
Matt
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif do you have a brain?

LOL!!! Of course I do... thus my comment. Do you?
You said "You should never ask the amp to put out more than what it's rated for. That's exactly what a bass boost does"

Bass boost does not "ask" the amp for more power. Hell you can max the **** **** bb out and not be anywhere near clipping! (
A bass boost is essentially just a single band eq, or center frequency gain. So by saying dont use bass boost is about as dumb as saying dont use the eq built in on your head unit or you will fry it. Just use it with a brain, the same way you would use precaution with your gain.

That's a good way to blow an amp. You should never ask the amp to put out more than what it's rated for. That's exactly what a bass boost does.
you sir are a fvcking idiot.

you obviously know nothing.

and obviously cant tell it is a joke.

it is there for a reason though right...? its not a (blow this amp) dial
yea really. i didnt know our amps where afhani and when the bast boost was up they would blow up and kill for 72 gey virgins.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Do you even know what bass boost actually does?
apparently he doesnt.

thats because people try to talk like they know everything about car audio when they dont.

Exact reason why I don't come on here very often...
R U serious?... Maxed out?... You don't see a problem?..

Do you have any idea what a potentiometer even is? Do you know what bass boost does ..... at all?.....
the guy thinks he is einstein

stop being a dumbass, stop trying to act like you are smart when you arent.

LOL

HAHAHA... Setting your so your amp puts out it's rated power and then turning the bass boost up is fail. This is how lots of noobs blow their amps up. Learn a little more before you flame.
thats not possible you fvckin idiot.

the only way to ask a amp to put out more power is to drop it below its rated ohm load.

why dont you send it a email and ask it if it wants to put out more power.

exactly.

you can turn bass boost all the way, and it wont do any harm, but it doesnt mean your sub will sound superb.

ecrack is a fvcking joke, you sshouldnt even be near car audio or anything electronic.

Wow dude... You are an e-toughguy. There are a lot of you on ca.com. YOU are a joke. You obviously know NOTHING. Setting your gain for the amp's rated power and then turning the bass boost up kills LOTS of amps. If you knew anything about what you were talking about you'd know that... that goes for both of you twats in here lying and acting like you are some kind of authorities on this even though you still don't know which one shinola is.

ok, well i just got a TMA 500.1 amp as my old amp blew. one thing i forgot about is that my sub is a 4 ohm single voice coil sub. i want to get the full 500 watts out of the TMA. at 4 ohm the powre output is 340W. is there any way to trick the amp into giving full power to the sub without blowing the amp? it is a monoblock amp, only one output.
i thought about wireing a 4 ohm resistor into the circuit, but decided against it. i figured id ask you guys.

Matt
Bad idea, glad you knew better. Yes the amp would see a 2ohm impedance load, and will output more power, but the resistor is still going to dissipate some of that power. Going by the ratings, you'd actually get less output from the sub.

Either get second matching subwoofer, or get a different one that is either D4, D1 or S2.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif dude give it up

actually I have another question...how would YOU go about setting up the gains on amps? and would I then get the full 100% rated output of this amp to my driver(s)? Don't let me down...

Give what up? Telling the truth? Not gonna happen.

I'm assuming you're trying to bait me... so I'm not going to play along. I understand that the bass boost is to compensate for a lack in output at certain frequencies, but this is usually not due to the amplifier putting out less power at these frequencies but rather cancellation. This means that the driver would still be getting around the same power as it was before but with reduced output.

Bass boost is used to compensate for this. Explain to the class how bass boost can give +16db increases at a given frequency from an amplifier without having the amplifier put out more power.

You said "You should never ask the amp to put out more than what it's rated for. That's exactly what a bass boost does"

Where did I say it was anything MORE than a single band EQ? Do you know what an eq does? How do you get those + or - 16db? It is filtering the signal that is fed to the amp. If you've set your gain for maximum output with a 0db tone and then turn your bass boost up to +16db, you will clip the SHIT out of your amp because you've "asked" it to put out several times more power than it is rated for. This is all common sense and if you guys understood amplifiers you'd know this. This is exactly what idiots do only worse. They think their gain is a volume knob and turn it all the way to max. Then they turn their bass boost all the way up and poof. I see it all the time. I'm not sure what you guys don't get.

stfu everyone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
the OPs question was answered
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif I wanted to play!

Oh well eCrack it was fun. just getting on your case because simply using the bb doesnt hurt the amp. That's why it should be adjusted with your gain. Thats what I am getting at. oh and that cut and boost is due to capacitors and resistors.

HOLY SHIT... This thread is a cluster **** and I can't tell if some of you are serious or joking or WTF is going on...

one thing I do know is that when i set my gains I decided to mess with stuff and see how it effected the output power. All I really remember is when I had it set properly with the bass boost all teh way down it was putting out roughly 45Vac then I cranked the bass boost up and that went up to almost 65Vac, the amp was rated for 2Kw RMS @ 1ohm...
