Total beginner - worth doing 97 Avalon myself?

I've never even considered upgrading the audio in my 1997 Toyota Avalon XLS until this Saturday, when my stock speakers began rattling uncontrollably. So I know I need to replace them, but is it worth doing myself? I've never done anything as far as far as audio, and after a quick look around the interwebs, I can't even seem to find a basic guide on the subject. What would it cost to replace 4 speakers in the car and is it something I could do myself? Is it easier/cheaper to take it to a pro? Does anyone know where I could find a good beginner source?

I don't need anything special - just a decent audio setup.

if you just gonna run them as they are now. with no external amp or anything then you can do it. jsut remove the door panels and add in new speakers, by connecting the positive and negative wires. the same with the back speakers. no big deal. go to crutchfield and see what size speakers you need.

I would stick with Crutchfield, they have the best customer service and will outfit you with what will be needed for the complete install. I would say $50-$100 per pair of speakers would be a good starting point. I believe Crutchfield will also include instructions on how to take apart your doors and rear deck. I will warn you that you may be heading down an expensive and fulfilling path!!

find a guy on here from south carolina and see if he would help. after someone shows you what to do its pretty much all you will need. then when you get another car down the road, you can do it yourself.

you got the bug, this will not be your first system, i guarantee it.
