Yes, some of them are capable of more than ample output....but that does not mean they could not be set up for a "pure" sound quality install. Many of the "sql" subs are the most accurate subs on the market.......

 
you're best bet may be something like a XXX sealed or simply a shiva in 1 cubic feet sealed...

shivas play flat down to 16 Hz or so, so 20-90 shouldn't be any sort of problem there...

application... 2005 corolla, most likely rear fired, near rear bumper, rear speakers removed to allow for bass venting into cabin etc, in recommeded sealed box with recommened power, poss... roll on dampener, deck 9833 w/xover set between 1st-4th order between 63-100hz, bass 0, bass boost 0, loudness off, etc.
goal, high quality sound with flat response throughout 20-90hz, or so, spectrum
There are tons of subs that are capable of this. Best bet is to go sealed and have lots of equalization.
