Too small power wire = amp in protect?

I used 8 gauge power and ground wire on my sx500.2 but i probably should have used 4 gauge because it randomly goes into protect and i think it might have to do with the power wire. I connected it for a little bit with the 4 gauge from my zx750.1 and the it seemed to work but i only tested if for a short time. Could this be my problem?

It very well could be, the 8 ga is probaly not allowing enough current to flow to the amp, thus the protection cicuit is keeping the amp from dying.

yeah, some amps have under current protection, meaning if your voltage falls beneith a certain level it will shut off, most amps are set at around 10 volts.

hmmm, i hope thats the problem and its not a faulty amp.

I think what i'll do is run some 1/0 to the trunk to a distro block for both amps. Then a real short run of 8 gauge would be fine right?

4 would be better if it fits, but yes, short runs of 8 should be fine.

go 4 guage to the amps from the d-block. best rule of thumb i always use, is use the maximum allowable wire the amp will accept.
