Too Much Vocals, Not Enough Guitar?

I have RSDs, and I cannot seem to get enough guitar out of these when vocals are playing. It is like the guitars get drowned out, and all you hear is vocals, drums, and cymbals. When it is just guitars playing, they do great...but as soon as the vocals start, no more guitar. Since I listen exclusively to rock music, this is really bugging me. My ears will be ringing from the vocals before the bass or drums or guitars are close to loud enough for me.

I have messed with the eq settings and everything but nothing helps. They sound good, and clear, but I am noticing that they are missing some instrumental content and I am not sure whether I need some different speakers or a different head unit with a better eq in it or what. I am running a Pioneer 6600. Doors are fully deadened and sealed. Speakers are seeing 150 wrms from a Cadence TXA 6004. Thoughts?

it depends on how the music is recorded and mixed. you cant do anything to get more vocals than guitar without mixing it again. rock has a lot of mid bass and sealing and deadening the door will get you a lot of that. but since you already did, and the mids are seeing lots of power, go with larger and beefer mids. RSD's seem to be the forum boner around here, but the mach 5 audio 6.5's are great on the mid bass/ midrange up to about 3k. i love them and all i listen to is rock/techno and anything in between , which means a lot of music with mid bass content.

i know im probaly gonna get flamed for saying this.. but that almost soudns similar to my cmx problem.. on some songs they soudned great.. but on some it sounded like something was missing.. if im correct rsd's also use a metal cone? i know material can have a minimal affect on a driver if its designed correctly..

but i came to the conclusion.. with my cmx's that it wasnt that it wasn't playing a frequency.. but playing another one too loud... i think there was a breakup somewhere around the crossover point (i think lowering it and running active would of helped)... when it played that one frequency too loud it tended to drown out otehrs.. i also wondered if it has something to do with the cone material because when looking at metal cone responses of different drivers.. they seemed to have this breakup in common.. i might be wrong but...

when i put my memphis mids in.. that went away.. they dont seem as loud cause they dont have that piercing sound (my cmx mids were actually kinda harsh.. esp for a mid) but they sound so much smoother

from now on im staying away from metal dome/cone speakers in all my next purchases.. althought i do gotta say i love my cal ti tweets

Well if it is simply in the way it is mixed, then why do I hear the content in the Audi but when played in my truck, it is missing? Talking an actual CD, not burned, same one used in both vehicles. I do like the RSD tweets, it just seems like the vocals overwhelm everything else from the mids. I hate to start swapping mids only since I am running passive though. Thinking about trying the ID CTX components...but only if I know it is the speaker at fault here and not my HU.

etac, going active could most likely solve your problem. sounds like car acoustics/ sounds like your mid was playing to high. getting some time on a rta would help if you eq'd anything.

dftnz7 how much do you have them high passed? guitars have a bit of mid range content. you should try to go with the lowest hz possible while blending with your sub stage.

IE; if your sub is lp at 60hz, your mid should be hp at 60hz or so depending. x/o points are everything .

I am no expert by any stretch but I also listen to almost ALL rock from AC/DC to Godsmack. I seemed to be missing something too, seperately the guitars or voice were crisp and clear together everything seemed to midbase. I am running CDT CL-62 in the front and CL-6 mids in the back. I went back to the installer and it was all just a matter of HPF and LPF settings along with setting the EQ properly. So for me it was just a balance thing.

Well I have them High Passed thru my headunit, I switch back and forth from 50hz to 80hz...Seems like my sub plays really really well to 80hz so I leave the speakers and sub set there thru my HU. When I try to cross everything over at 50hz it still sounds good but I lose a lot of bass and don't gain anything either. This thing with vocals is driving me nuts tho...they overwhelm everything else and it bugs me that I am missing some subtleties in the bands like Tool, older Deftones, etc. There are usually a lot of subtle instrumental things going on in the background in these tracks that I am missing. 99% of people probably would think they sound great but it is irritating to know that not all the information on the CD is being played thru the speakers.

turn that filter off. let those mids play as low as they were designed to go. my mids play from 2k-down. no filters, sealed in pods. you may have to go bigger if your unhappy. those drivers are very important for the system.

above mentioned. cross them over as low as possible. mine crossed at 60 sound decent. i can't go as loud at 60 because my comps ****, but they sound better than the 85 i previously had them at.
